2018 Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

TAG Heuer has established its presence as the Official Timekeeper of the Broadmoor Pikes Peak for the third consecutive year in a row.

28thJune 2018– Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest car and motorcycle race in the United States. The race is held in the southern front rage of the Rocky Mountains and is located in Pikes Peak, Colorado.  Pikes Peak is a wild race and one that can be truly enjoyed. It is a race against the clock in a particular atmosphere.  Twenty kilometers of climbing between trees on one side and a harrowing cliff on the opposite side. With 156 turns, you are sure to get dizzy trying to follow the racers.

Another unique condition with this race that makes it challenging is due to its altitude.  At the start of the race, the altitude is 2862 meters and at the finish line 4302 meters. At these heights, the engines suffer from lack of air.  Perilous danger is never too far away. Pikes Peak, also known as “The Race to the Clouds”, offers unique challenges to race car drivers alike, and thorough enjoyment for the spectators as well.  It offers an adrenaline charge like no other race can.

In the build-up to the race, TAG Heuer challenged the race car drivers with the hashtag #DontCrackUnderPressure, referring to their new advertising campaign slogan. Notably, this slogan was also used in campaigns between 1991 and 1994.

French driver, Romain Dumas, completed the Race to the clouds in 7:57:148. Setting a new record, beating the previous overall record of 8:13:878. Dumas also became the first driver to finish the course in under eight minutes.

TAG Heuer and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb both share a very rich history in the sport of motor racing. The Pikes Peak race was first established in 1916. Which also happens to be the same year that TAG Heuer launched their first Mikrograph.  The Mikerograph was the first chronograph that was 1/100 of a second accurate.

It is these same superior chronographs that have been used for sporting events throughout the world and paved the way for TAG Heuer to become the official timekeeper for some of the most considerable events in motor racing throughout history, such as, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Carrera Panamericana, and even the Indy 500.
