For the majority of us, we have to keep working long hours in order to afford collecting timeless timepieces. However, whether you are an avid watch collector and have been collecting for many years, or you are just starting out, an ORIS timepiece, whether it is a diver, a pilot’s watch, dress watch or a racing chronograph, is an excellent place to begin your collection.
ORIS Watches, amazingly still independent since their founding in Holstein, Switzerland over 100 years ago, 1904 to be specific, are known for their clean designs and hawk-like attention to details. ORIS watches, are made to Swiss luxury standards, while there are most certainly other brands available that may be cheaper, ORIS watches are moderately priced yet achievable for any watch collector. Below we will go over some of the ORIS watch models that are highly collectable and attract quite a following.
ORIS HAMMERHEAD LIMITED EDITION
The Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition, is a watch designed to help raise awareness and funds for a shark conservation project run by Pelagios Kakunjá, a non-profit organization, and is supported by ORIS ambassador and professional diver Jérôme Delafosse.
Pelagios Kakunjá’s objective is to understand movements and migratory pathways of the ocean’s sharks. Their latest project is looking to gleam more about migration routes for the endangered Scalloped Hammerhead shark, a species that resides in the Eastern Pacific. According to the IUCN, the global population for Scalloped Hammerhead sharks has declined by up to 90 per cent during the previous thirty years.
ORIS AQUIS DATE
The ORIS Aquis Date continues both the spirit and design of its predecessor. The horns and the bracelet are much thinner than the previous model, giving the case and the whole watch a more slender look. The hands and indices have been redesigned to appear much bolder and sharper, and the screw-in security crown and crown protectors have been changed to give the timepiece a much sleeker silhouette. The bezel inlay is made of black, scratch and fade-resistant ceramic, and the dial bears the Aquis name.
ORIS BIG CROWN PRO PILOT DAY DATE
Originally introduced back in 2014, the ORIS Big Crown Pro Pilot Day Date combines a retro yet modern design of simplicity housed in an oversized stainless steel body with a self-winding movement featuring day and date display. The movement for the watch is outsourced from Sellita.
ORIS DIVER’S SIXTY FIVE
ORIS Diver’s Sixty Five frame has been upgraded from 36 mm to a more modern fit of 40 mm. The case is very light and yet is composed of multi-piece stainless steel. The bezel with an aluminum ring is easily adjustable, and unlike the original divers which had a bi-directional bezel, this upgraded version has a 120-click unidirectional bezel.
ORIS AUDI SPORT LIMITED EDITION II CHRONOGRAPH
The ORIS Audi Sport Limited Edition II Chronograph, is a 4mm watch encased in lightweight, yet resilient titanium steel. All of the mechanisms are coated in black with DLC and red accents on the dial including the logo, chronograph hand, and small second indicator. Equipped with a tachymeter that is located on the inner flange of the dial, and a 60-minute timer engraved on the insert of the bi-directional rotating bezel, making it possible to calculate intervals of both times and average speeds. Powered by a caliber ORIS 778, which is based on a Sellita SW 500, the ORIS Adui Sport Limited Edition II Chronograph is a must-have for any collector.
